Are there try-outs?
Yes, try-outs take place during WOW week and the first week of school; however, it is taken into account that most freshmen participate in WOW activities and therefore are allowed some flexibility in attendance.
Do you need experience to be on the team?
While it isn’t required, we recommend that you have at least some experience playing field hockey. Because our season starts when school does, we don’t have time to teach new players about the game very thoroughly. Each player is required to provide their own equipment, so if you are going to invest in a stick, we would suggest that you already know how to play. But if you are still interested, please feel free to come by a practice and check it out.
When is your season?
We compete in the WCFHC during fall quarter. Try-outs begin during WOW and our first weekend of play takes place after the first week of school. We compete every weekend until mid-November, when the WCFHC Championship tournament takes place. In the spring, we turn our focus to tournament competition. Spring practices begin after spring break and usually take place 2-3 times per week.
How much do you practice?
In the fall, we practice every day for about 2 hours. Usually we set one day of the week for conditioning alone.
